Googling this error led me down a deep rabbit hole, but it turns out that the solution was to run: sudo chmod +x ~/legendary/MagicTheGathering/MTGA.app/Contents/MacOS/MTGA This will install MTGA to ~/legendary/MagicTheGathering/MTGA.appĪlthough the app is now downloaded it refused to run, with an error along the lines of "you do not have permission to open this app".
The '-platform Mac' option is required, otherwise it will download the Windows version (which will fail to run). This method requires an Epic account which has had MTGA added to it. I've managed to get MTGA running on macOS 11.1 without the Epic Game Launcher, using Legendary. I was doing a clean install of macOS anyway, and wanted to avoid having it on my system. It's great that there's now a Mac version of MTGA, but the Epic Game Launcher is annoying: full of ads, and fails to open about a third of the time.
